Monotone

“Monotone like relentless rain on Paris rooftops, like the suburb trains that all arrive at Gare St.-Lazare, and the masses of humans going into the underground, monotone like work, sex and time. Monotonous like daily life, human obscurity, human love.

Monotone: for a time of violent obscurity, a purge of images, a travel down some dark tunnel, a healing darkness, a protest against speed, materialism. Towards the “unstuck sound.” Hhmmmaaahummmmmm”

Andrew Sweeny, Paris June 4, 2005

Andrew Sweeny muse was born and nourished in the Montreal underground Arts community, and long snowy nights in the Cafe Sarajevo listening to the Wainwright family, and what is now silver mt. Zion, and so many others who have just disapeared under the snow . . .

After graduating with a degree in English Literature from McGill University, Andrew Sweeny dropped out of the world in order to pursue his passion for music and poetry. Playing regularly in the Cabaret scene in Montreal, he met Jake Brown his cabaret Yawp! Jake and Andrew Sweeny, dedicated to an artists utopia, plastered a million posters all over Montreal, supporting and promoting hundreds of poets, musicians, dancers and clowns, providing a stage to play for everyone, with or without talent. It was a time of great creativity and sublime failure.

After some years of living in Montreal, Andrew, in the tradition of the ancient troubadours knights, took to the road to plunder. He as performed in many remote and unlikely places such as Newfoundland, Cape Breton, Tokyo, Prague and Paris. In Montreal he was lucky enough to meet Leonard Cohen and Bruce Cockburn. Both were influences and encouraged him in music. Andrew now lives happily in the city of lights, Paris, France . . .
